Set up your first CDN domain

Updated 4 min read

Add a domain, connect an origin and configure DNS to complete setup.

Where to start and what to complete

Go to CDN → Domain management and select Add domain. The wizard covers Domain, region and type, Connect origin, and Confirm setup. Then configure CNAME at your DNS provider and verify an actual file.

Before setup

Prepare a domain you control and an origin that serves content correctly. The acceleration domain is the visitor-facing address; the origin stores the original files.

You need permission to change DNS. Mainland China or global acceleration requires applicable filing and access requirements. For overseas regions, follow the setup page's checks.

Origin field examples

Assume download.example.com is the acceleration domain and origin.example.com stores the files. These examples explain field relationships; replace them with your own origin settings.

Origin field examples
FieldExamplePurpose
Origin addressorigin.example.comThe origin address that the CDN connects to
Origin protocol / portHTTPS / 443Must match the services available at the origin
Origin HostThe domain the origin uses to identify the websiteMust match when the origin routes by Host; if blank, the page uses the acceleration domain
CNAMECopy from the domain list after creationThe DNS target for your provider, not the origin address

Complete setup in the console

  1. Choose the region and static or dynamic acceleration. Enter a domain such as download.example.com without https://, a port or a path. Dynamic acceleration is currently selectable only for Mainland China.
  2. Select Verify and continue. If ownership verification is required, add the provided TXT name and value at your DNS provider, wait for it to take effect and select Check again.
  3. In Connect origin, enter the origin address, protocol, port and Host, then select Next. Do not use an acceleration domain that already points to the CDN as the origin.
  4. In Confirm setup, review the domain, region, origin and Host, then select Create acceleration domain.
  5. Return to Domain management and copy this domain's CNAME. Add a CNAME record at your DNS provider. Do not copy the value assigned to another domain.
  6. Visit a real file path and check the content and status. For HTTPS, configure a certificate using the certificate guide before testing the resource.

What counts as a successful setup

Creating the domain is only the first step. DNS must point to the assigned CNAME, the origin must be reachable and the target file must return correctly. HTTPS also requires a certificate matching the acceleration domain.

Test a complete resource URL such as https://download.example.com/releases/demo.zip. A 404 on the root path may simply mean the origin has no home page; it does not prove that every file is unavailable.

Common setup issues

Common setup issues
IssueWhat to check
Domain ownership verification requestedUse the TXT name and value from this check, ensuring the record name does not repeat the root domain.
Dynamic acceleration is unavailableThe setup page enables dynamic acceleration only in supported regions. Use the options actually available.
Still inaccessible after creationContinue checking CNAME, origin connectivity and HTTPS instead of repeatedly adding the same domain.
